Corporate culture for my original branch was to be a team and to help
each other out. If we were having a bad day, there was someone to talk
to about it. if we screwed up,we would help each other fix the problem.
It was a fun place to work where everyone got a long and where
management wasn't really management, they were there to help and if you
wanted to get ahead,it was all based on merit. The same rules applied
across the board whoever you were.Corporate culture for this branch
that I am in now basically comes down to two things: business
philosophy and ass kissing to superiors. If you screw up royally, can't
fill reservations in favor of a shady customer, don't get along with
other employees but go along with the bosses philosphy, thats great. If
you get along with everyone, take care of your previous customers first
and the important customers but are unable to rent to the customer who
has no credit card, pays only cash and does not book in advance (by
extension, not following philosophy)thats bad despite the repeated
business and the good word of mouth you get from repeat satisfied
customers. Diversity is not an issue as we have a multiple mix of
gender,religion,creed,race,etc. Everyone underneath management gets
along well because they are against management. Hours are long,an
average day goes from 7:30-6 with an hour off for lunch. On Mondays and
Fridays, the hours are longer and you will get paid for them.
However, your immediate supervisor will get blasted for the amount of
overtime they have to pay. Dress code is shirt and tie everyday. Must
be white or blue shirt. As far as advancement,if your willing to move
out of the city ( and you are liked by management),you can move up
fairly quick in the company. There are opportunities everywhere to
moveup, but not in this city where the manager will be in until the area
manager position comes up. Two reasons for the opportunity. There is a
lot of growth in the company and there is also a lot of turnover.
Branch managers are let go for a myriad of reasons. Its rare if an area
manager is let go but when that happens, its usually because of a dis
agreement with a superior as opposed to performance. Moving up will
happen but be advised to watch your back as you move up the corporate
chain as all geographical areas are different as far as people go.
