Working at Enterprise means long, long hours and low pay. You are
basically on an hourly wage, not salary, and you will be moved around
to several different locations every 2-3 months. You will generally
work from 7am-6:30pm Monday through Friday and 8:30am-12:30pm on
Saturdays, depending on the branch for which you work (some branches
will have even longer hours--open all day Saturdays and Sundays).
Depening on your branch and manager, you may or may not get a lunch
break every day.
Corporate culture at enterprise encourages youth, energy, and sales.
The official mantra stresses customer service and rewards for hard
work. However, the reality usually means finding creative ways to
trick customers into taking vehicles which have "Check Engine" lights
or are severely needing new brakes. The major reward to employees is a
$1,250 bonus if you can get one of your friends referred for hire and
they can last 3 months. Because of the grating and draining nature of
the job (hours, pay, focus on sales to the point of unethical behavior)
turnover is extremely high and employee morale is extemely low.
In addition, the company strives for a Southwest Airlines type of loose
atmosphere, which means that sexual harassment-type lewd-talk and
behavior are perfectly acceptable between colleagues. Also, alcohol
consumption is pushed on employees through company-sponsered events.
Failure to attend such events leads to the perception that you're not
an Enterprise-type person.
The dress code is strict and requires professional business attire.
Suits aren't necessarily required every day, but dress shirts, pants,
ties, etc. are required. This dress code means you will end up washing
cars in a wet wash bay during the hottest months of summer and the
coldest months of winter in your dress clothes, which will quickly get
worn out and ruined (especially your dress shoes).
