With the corporate structure in place for all the branches, Enterprise
will become the most successful rental car company in North America
simply because the risk is spread. Every other company such as
National,Budget, etc is a franchisee who buys into the business and has
to pretty much learn on the job. Enterprise employees are trained
pretty much the same way regardless if your in the USA or the UK.
Everyone starts at the same place which in management trainee. Not one
person will get hired as a manager straight off the street. With other
companies, people buy in with little clue how to run a car rental
business, and where to get the cars from. There are a lot more risks and
a lot more worry for the franchisee then thr corporate branch manager.
There is a lot more polish as well because once you become
mamager, you've been with the company a few years and have received
extensive training and will continue to receive extensive training. The
franchisee doesn't have that. Also the market segment Enterprise
concentrates on (insurance replacement) bodes well for them as the cars
have less kms on them and they receive more money. Therefore they
receive more money on resale and ,in theory, the cars are in better
shape to go out to dealerships. Car companies that deal with almost all
corporate business, sees cars with high mileage and a greater possiblity
for damage and late returns, which will cause other customers delays and
may proppmt them to switch to another company. Bottom line: as long as
Enterprise has enough cars and say yes to the right clientele, they will
be number one in cars rented and in having the lowest rates.
Also,Enterprise has a history of the lowest rates in almost any market
and a fairly wide selection of vehicles. The only problem is employee
morale is this particular area. In most other areas, employee morale is
up because they know they can move up quick if they are willing to
relocate, they know they will be treated fairly and everyone helps each
other out. There was nothing fair about the last promotion opportunityn
my area and almost everyone within the group and outside the area knows
it. If you want a job and to stay in the same city, that works as well
but don't expect quick advancement, especially if your in my area. Like
I said before, there is little room for advancement if you stay in one
city unless you live in a metropolis like new york where there are tons
of branches. You can get to where you want to go fairly quickly but a
LOT of movement will be required.
