| President and General Manager |
The former Coastal Corp. was an agressive and progressive company.
Since the merger with El paso in 2001, the energy sector has been
plagued by Enron and the scrutiny imposed on all companies in energy.
This has resulted in substantial turnover in the senior management ranks
and constant shifting of company direction. In short, it has been
confusing and difficult the last 2+ years, but it appears that the
turmoil is settling down and the company is refocusing on the future.
The unfortunate result of restructuring of any company is that job
opportunities have been substantially restricted and many employment
benefits have been limited or eliminated in an effort to save money for
the company. Morale is not good in the Houston area.
The company will continue its plan to sell of assets and focus more on
gas pipelines. This is good for those in that area and maintains a high
level of uncertainty and anxiety for other areas such as liquid fuels
and terminals and power.
