I was very impressed by my division's hiring process. I originally
responed to an add on Monster.com and then waited for about 6 weeks
before I was contacted. Later, I was told that quite a few had applied
for the position and that they had shared the resume's through out the
department looking for feedback. I was one of the few that they chose
for interviewing.
I was then called by a member of HR for a phone interview. We spent
about an hour on the phone discussing not just my history but my
future. Where did I see myself going? What makes me happy? Where I
have experienced frustration in my current job and why did that cause
frustration? It was a very good time of sharing and learning about
what I'm looking for and what the company was looking for.
I was then sent an e-mail to take an online test that looked into what
kind of person I was and what skills I brought to the table. The test
focused on personality, math, grammar, etc. It was a broad test that
took about an hour to do online (without a calculator). Some of those
types of math problems I hadn't seen since High School.
After that, I was called in to do face-to-face interviews. In a span
of 3.5 hours, I interviewed with 4 different people. The manager of my
dept., the person I would be reporting to, the network administrator,
and then a phone interview with another person in the same position at
the corporate headquarters. All of them asked detailed questions about
my skills and my managing techniques along with my tendencies in
dealing with people. Again, they were all great interviews, but
afterwards, I was exhausted and my throat was dry. It would have been
nice to be offered some water!!!!
