I currently work for a division of Ecolab based in Greensboro, NC.
This particular division I like to think is a true mirror of what this
company is like. Like any company it has it's strengths and
weaknesses, but overall it represents what makes America great; the
ability to be with a group of people to accomplish a common goal yet
have the ability to be an individual and make your own dreams happen.
The corporate culture is one where ideas are encouraged and input is
welcomed from all levels within the company. Open discussion happens
quite a bit in the various departmental meetings where input is asked
for and the "team" is the one who helps decide what is best. Managers
help provide focus but they don't say, "My way or else!!!" There is
also a lot of room for creativity and it's encouraged by all levels of
management. Just a few months ago, the company sponsored an internal
creativity fair where teams competed against each other for the
winning "idea" that would take our division to the next level with our
customers and in sales. Everyone from the plant to the senior VPs
participated and was considered a great event and one that we will do
annually.
Diversity is a major factor in our division and HR is constantly
seeking canidates of all races and gender. I know for a fact that the
company sets internal goals for a certain percentage of all new hires
be of a diverse background. This is not a "guy's club" but one that
really does represent society's makeup
Hours and dress code are fairly flexible depending on your position.
We do have hourly and salaried positions where the hours may change.
Most people work 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch. The dress is business
causual with more causual in the plant.
What I really like is that the company gives you the ability to see a
need and then propose a resolution including creating a new position.
In I.S., we've been needing a better handle of our assets and buying
and one person on the team has a heart for doing this. He's now being
encouraged to take on the responsibilities he wants with the idea and
plan being that this "position" would become a newly created salaried
role in 2004.
