East Orange General is a multi site, acute care facility that is located
in the inner city and has a convenant with the community to deliver
healthcare services to the community it serves. This aspect is not a
primary goal of the organization. Management of human capital is non-
existant, there are pepole in sensitive postions who are not qualified
and the corporate culture is not conducive to progressive change because
managment spends all of it's time putting out fires that it failed to
strategically manage in a timely fashion.
It is understood that healthcare is a competitive, dynamic and
increasingly complicated environment that demands strategic analysis and
design, management of human capital and fiscal responsibility, but the
real purpose of healthcare for a community that is esperiencing limited
access, uninsured, underinsured and underserved is the provision of
comprehensive, outcome based service to the patients and thier
families. This is not happening at this hospital because of a "good old
boy network" that is concerned with status quo and image. This is truly
unfortunate for those who seek assistance and care from this facity.
I worked there for 4 years with constant overtime, excellent reviews and
never recieved a raise as no one has in any other department. The
hopitial consistently fails reviews and is presently under the direction
of an outside authority to govern overall processes.
This community has seen several local hospitals in the area close and
the ability to recieve timely, qualified care is diminishing for a
community in need. I hope that this hospital revisits it's mission and
vision, recognizes that it is achieved through it's dedicated employees
and recognizes that it is tasked with the care of a community in
need.
