EMC offers a high-paced work environment. It is expected that salaried
workers work more than 40 hours per week and weekends when management
feels it is necessary.
EMC does not value family. Females that work for EMC and have young
children are not as likely to be given promotions or equal
opportunities. Most of the Engineering managers are male and under 40,
female managers tend to be either childless or have grown children. New
hires are either in India, college recruits, or young adults.
As an employee, I have been warned and expected never to question
management decisions. Doing so is considered to be hostile and
aggressive and will lead to a 30 day performance improvement plan
(PIP). Very few employees that are placed on a PIP are able to
successfully complete it. If placed on a PIP, consider yourself fired
and immediately start to look for new employeement.
If, to improve your opportunity for professional success, you attempt
to transfer to another department within EMC and you are "needed" in
your current department, your chances are greatly reduced.
EMC is not the place to work if you are a female with young children or
if you are a male over 45 that is not being hired at a management level.
