There is no clear understanding of how one obtains a raise or bonus at
EDS. Everyone is made to feel like compensation should never be
discussed. Every job promotion is considered "lateral" and therefore
not an opportunity to make more money. I have worked for EDS for 6
years now and can't wait to leave. Here is the letter I Sent to my
current manager (which by the way changes every 6 months) At the time
of this letter I had received 3 promotions and had heaps of additional
responsibility, stress, etc. added to my day-to-day job. But NO PAY
INCREASE was ever realized! ----
In the past three years, I have received two promotions. Each promotion
required a greater level of technical experience, and each added
additional value to EDS. These promotions required more responsibility,
time, and additional levels of experience. It would be safe to assume
that I am considered a top performer with multiple managers, and teams
recruiting me. I remember three years ago, when my manager explained I
would be plagued with on-call responsibilities, if I left his desktop
support group, to support servers instead. I enthusiastically responded
with yes, I am looking forward to the additional responsibility and the
opportunity to gain better technical experience. Of course, I also
believed that I would be provided additional compensation. It is only
logical to think that promotions, more responsibility, would equate to
more pay. This assumption proved to be false, as I am now still making
desktop support wages. It is even more frustrating to hear
about ??outside hires?? coming into EDS and immediately making more money
than EDS??ers currently in that same job profile!
I love working in the IT industry. I am honestly addicted to this work
and thrills of solving complex IT related issues. I pride myself in my
level of IT knowledge and the lengths I will go to obtain more
knowledge. I am currently putting myself through school at night,
because EDS no longer supports their own Tuition Assistance program. I
will continue to extend myself, and all the resources I may posses to
better myself in this industry. Considering my track record and my
willingness to do and accomplish whatever it takes to succeed, I find
no reasons why I shouldn??t immediately receive a healthy raise.
EDS has gone through many changes in the past 5 years that I have been
with the company. The company is currently going through more drastic
changes. I can only hope that the future changes will bring a better
environment for the people of EDS, which in return will create a better
company. I will do whatever I will to support the leaders of this
company, and help create more revenue in any way I can, but, I need to
know that the company I work for is also considering me, and my
financial situation.
---- The simple fact is EDS does not associate pay with promotions and
does not plan to. They have abused their employees and exploited their
workers. The company is in a downward spiral and the leaders are
clueless. The people are motivated with fear and nothing else. I
predict a mass exodus in the next two years.
