I understand EDS has had better times. When I joined the company in 2000
the financial situation has steadily deteriorated while employee cynicism
has steadily increased - a problem endemic to many companies that are
driven by the stock market. There is a common belief in EDS that
employees are not being treated well or given a fair deal. Further,
salary rise has traditionally been difficult to obtain in EDS and this is
especially true today! Advancement is also difficult, although the
positive is that because of frequent resignations, opportunities to take
on more responsibility does arise. Training is non existent or computer
based. However, local management often try to make the best of the
situation and do the best for their employees with the exception of only
some 'statistics' focussed leaders who appear to recognise little else.
These problems do not appear to be unique to EDS, they appear to be an
affliction (as mentioned) of many stock market driven companies. I can
not recommend EDS as an employer of choice until either it's management
and management philosophies are unshackled from the stockmarket or the
stock price rises so significantly that EDS is able to once again focus
on employee and customer satisfaction. The positive is that EDS has
taught me to adopt a more philosphical approach to life and to build
strength of character owing to the hardship we all experience.
