Overall outlook for HR is that DuPont will be outsourcing HR. Overall
outlook for company performance is good, however a cultural revolution
needs to take place. Until DuPont learns how to tap into new talent
they will be missing innovation that stems far beyond chemists and
engineers. DuPont will be successful because they make the things that
the world needs and cannot live without. However they will continue to
struggle at cutting costs (even with recent investments in Six Sigma
methodology). DuPont is constantly under the gun of Wall Street and is
forced to think quarterly versus strategically. DuPont currently has a
2010 strategy that they are working towards led by Chad Holliday. It
is quiestionable whether Chad will make it to see 2010. For someone
considering employment, it is an extremely difficult culture to come
into and be successful. Leaders are groomed internally. There are
virtually no leaders from the outside. Women management representation
is still a bit low, as is Hispanic representaton. Technology is not
valued. Chemistry and Engineering is. Must be willing to commit to
strong safety culture and not be too competitive or risky. Overall
employee morale is low because DuPont was once the largest employer in
Delaware and a family run company, thus since the 80s there have been a
series of cutbacks, reduction in force, and selling off of businesses
which have crushed employees because they thought they had employment
for life. Because they are so seniority based it has also made
performance management a challenge as well.
