Dow Jones Newswires provides an extremely pleasant work environment but
lacks focus. It seems to operate as three different companies in the
three parts of the world. Not even story slugs for simple regular news
stories such as economic data preview are the same around the globe: in
Europe they're called DATA PREVIEW, in the Americas, they're called
SURVEY. The quality of stories varies greatly too, even within the same
region. Salaries are generally lower than at Reuters or Bloomberg. It's
a great opportunity for junior or unexperienced reporters to learn how
to be a reporter but can be limited and frustrating for more experienced
journalists. For the latter group, DJN can offer prefessionals freedom.
Column writers can write about pretty much anything they want, with
little interference from editors.
