DJN is in a weak position to compete with Bloomberg and Reuters, their
main competitors, in the medium term. Despite its strong presence in the
US equities news market, DJN is currently the weakest of the three main
financial wires and seems to be losing market share. One of the main
problems DJN has as a brand is that it sells its news over Reuters and
Bloomberg terminals, so many subscribers fail to realize the news
they're reading are produced by DJN. They'll recall they read important
news AT the Reuters terminal, or Bloomberg Terminal. An additional
source of concern is that Dow Jones, the parent company, has failed to
make its units (DJN, WSJ, WSJ.com) cooperate. The way it stands, they
function as competing services under the same umbrella.
