Store Manager Dollar General will not survive if the corporate culture does not change. Corporate employees look down on the people in the stores as a nuisance. Store employees see new practices and procedures issued by corporate and give them the bird. Its almost like being in the middle of a bunch of feuding 7th grade girls. Everyone is giving everyone else the finger. The hours that a store manager must work to keep a store operating are unreasonable. I've had to work 60-90 hours per week and miss entire weekends with my family by working open to close Saturday and Sunday. There is a joke in our district that if Dollar General wanted you to have a family, they would issue you one as an employee benefit. The opportunities for advancement appear to be slim. Every one of the new District Managers in training I have met came in from other retailers. Moving from the stores to a district, regional, or divisional role seems to be more difficult if you have experience from within the company.. The dress code does not apply to all company employees. Anyone above the store level is apparently exempt. District, Regional, and Divisional leadership rarely wears the black and tan. If I have to wear it, so should they.
