I was the store manager of a kids store and it was hard work. First it
is hard being the manager because you can never just call in sick, I
had to call another manager at home to work for me on their day off. A
couple times I had to go to work while vomiting and having a high fever
because nobody could work for me. The hours were hard I only received
one Saturday off a month which meant not enough time for my family.
Their were too many vacation blackout periods also. I couldn't take any
time off the whole month of October, November, or December. Also no
time of and six day work weeks (which I didn't get paid or time off for
because I was salaried) Father's day week, Mother's day week , Easter
week and any other week they decided to do the last minute.
Next no matter what you do it is never enough for them. Big deal
if you work 10 extra hours to get all the work done one week, you don't
get any time off the next.
It wasn't so bad when I first started their but now it is
ridiculous. I got written up for someone having a striped shirt on
because he had to work so many hours extra that week he didn't have a
chance to do laundry. The problem is you have to wear a white shirt and
we receive shipment daily. The boxes are very dirty. Four years ago you
could where what you wanted.
We had to do huge floor changes monthly and there would be no
extra hours, so you couldn't do it when the store was closed because
you barely had enough hours to have two people on staff. They are
behond strict with visuals. I was written up for a sticker in the
window being a quarter of an inch off. Let me tell you large window
clings are not easy to put up.
There are no opportunities for advancement if you are the store
manager, they are always downsizing on District Managers so your stuck.
This company does not want managers that have children either,
especailly infants. Reason being because they get sick and moms need to
take care of their babies.
You work your tail off and I can tell you on one hand how many
times I heard the word thank you from my boss.
Then I loose my job because the store isn't making our goals and
my boss has enough guts to say "It's not that your not making your
sales goals it is when your not there" oviously she thought I should be
there seven days a week open to close.
