The whole Braxton/reintegrating as Deloitte debacle was extremely
unsettling for many employees. Several partners left, and there were
many land-grabs for power. The culture in general began to shift towards
a more Deloitte & Touche approach. This wasn't necessarily bad, it was
just a very difficult change. As a combined entity Deloitte does have
the size and capabilities to do some interesting Sarbanes Oxley work,
however it remains to be seen if this is something the company can take
advantage of. Again, the experience you have at Deloitte, your
opportunities for advancement and ability to grow within the company
will be largely geared by the partners you work with and industry you
work in. Particularly in Pittsburgh where the client base is mostly
Public Sector, employees have been somewhat sheilded from the churn of
the .com bust, and Deloitte's attempted break-off/merger. Other offices
and industries have not fared so well. While the Public Sector is not
always seen as particularly glamorous (even within Deloitte) it is
fairly stable.
