The corporate culture is sometimes heirarchical, as would be expected
in a Department of Defense organization. There is a chain of command
that is recognized for each area and you know who your immediate
supervisors are, but it's not really strict (i.e. you won't get fired
if you talk to someone outside your chain). Overall, the culture is
relaxed as long as you get your work done. I think there is a lot of
diversity here: people from various backgrounds, different
ethnicities, and different career goals. (I don't work with all
accountants or with people who make the same salary as me. I work with
top bosses/directors and field level technicians on a daily basis.)
We have very flexible hours. An employee can come to work anywhere
from 6:30am to 8:30am and stay until your 8 hours are complete.
The dress code here is business casual with jeans allowed on Fridays.
However, business professional is not discouraged. There are some
people who where jeans everyday and some who where suits everyday. It
really depends on how you want to be viewed by your superiors and how
far up the corporate ladder you want to go.
Initially, accountants and financial analysts, right out of school, are
hired in under a training program. This 3 year program, based on your
progression, includes 2 promotions during your first two years. After
completing the training program, promotions are your responsibility.
When a position becomes available, it is usually released for most to
see and you can apply if you are eligible and meet the requirements of
the position.
In addition, there is a formal mentoring program where you are paired
up with a mentor and are alloted 4 hours of mentoring each month.
