Datamonitor is a highly unstable organization. It went from being a
startup, to being a wanna be competitor in the consulting sector, to
being a "revamped" service (it has gone through this phase several
times) to being a mess. The culture of the company is "to each his own"
and there is certainly a sense of survival of the fittest. Any and
all "yes" people welcome. All those with an opinion and sense of
business management should stay away. There is a very eurocentric
approach to management which has spread to the US office. All senior
managment is out of the UK office leaving a large feeling of abandonment
in the US office. There is little to no effective communication across
the board. There is no room for advancement, most employees leave after
a max of two years because there is no incentive to stay. There is a
large level of turnover from all levels. Morale is constantly
decreasing. Management's answer: Alcohol! They believe that a night
out on the town courtesy of the corporate account is the perfect way to
increase morale and boost productivity. Employees are constantly
reminded that costs must be brought down and nothing is to valuable to
be spared including the employees. There is no sense of job security.
Datamonitor is a great stepping stone for young, recent grads, looking
for a fairly decent job title, good industry exposure, large
responsabilites that will help them advance quickly. If you are not
interested in money, security and comfortable environment, then this is
the perfect job. It is a 2 year maximum position that will probably
open the doors for you elsewhere.
