Like most research environments, the laboratories are havens of blue-jeans and
sneakers.
The faculty, postdocs, and technicians alike all dress very casually. The hours
people keep are
individual to each person and their position, though in general it is recognized
that science is
not a 40-hour a week job (even for a technician). The PIs, both junior and
senior, work long
hours, weekday and weekend, and expect their employees to do the same. The
atmosphere is
very social and communal. Everyone collaborates, shares data - not too many
cutthroat
political battles here.
