There is no doubt that employment opportunities are quite plentiful
at Countrywide. However, there is a high turnover in many of the
positions, especially in the Loan Servicing area.
Countrywide is spread out into many "corporate" locations, with
branch offices "country-wide." The senior executives are housed on the
3rd floor of the Corporate Headquarters. There they enjoy perks such as
private dining rooms and restrooms and salaries over $250,000/year. It
is rare to see a senior executive associating with the more common
workforce.
Hours are staggered depending on position, but Countrywide does not
have a "flexible hours" program.
The dress code is extreme. Although classified as "business
casual," one is not allowed to wear dressy, feminine t-shirts nor
decorative sweatshirts -- the kind of clothes accepted in most "business
casual" environments. There is no "Casual Friday." Some kind of
hosiery must be worn at all times. Strappy sandals are okay -- as long
as you wear hose. There is not much concern for safety in regard to non-
opened toed shoes. Just wear hose...
Advancement opportunities come to those already in a high position.
It is commonly understood that one must "serve" two years before even
being considered for a promotion, regardless if the person deserves it.
It is also understood that to attain any real advancement or increase in
salary, one must "jump" from division to division, increasing one's
title along the way.
