I was asked a number of questions on how I would cope living in an
underprivileged community and multitasking in a project that requires
adapting to unforseen changes. I was also asked why I wanted to pursue
volunteering for child care. Jill really made me think about what I was
getting myself into rather than expect to plunge in. There were two
rounds of interviews as several were weeded out. One question that
stood out was describe an instance where you approached conflict at
work and how you resolved it. In retrospect, I thought that question
was necessary because that gives the interviewer a good idea of how
mature and much poise a candidate has in resolving difficult decisions,
which is universal in any workplace you go to. I had the option to
choose among three out of state projects, since AmeriCorps VISTA is
national program offering projects in all 50 states. This deals with
improving commuties in several arenas - affordable housing, education,
health care, crime prevention, and others.
