I think Corporation for National Service will be around for years to
come because of the appeal it has for many youths wanting to make a
difference in other people's lives. Also AmeriCorps is a program that
has bipartisan support regardless of where on the political spectrum
you belong. It has been around since 1965 and continues to be an arena
where donating your services for those not as fortunate as ourselves.
The other advantage is that you get to mingle with other
twentysomething youth your age who share similar values and sometimes
network in sharing your expertise, attend conferences, and meet new
people from other states. The downside is that obviously you have to
give up mundane commodities and be willing to live under a limited
budget, and prioritize your money- which can be done. It's not as bad
as people might think, and it makes you appreciate your resources even
more.
