CFC is a solid Company that continually ranks among the top insurers in
the country. While the company is dedicated to serving it's agents and
timely and knowledgeable service are the main goals, CFC is also very
aware of family and personal issues. They are very accomodating to
those with families and make every effort to allow associates to take
care of important matters other than business.
The environment is very easy to work in. While efficiency is very
important, most of the departments seem pretty laid back. The managers
generally tell you what they expect and as long as you do what you need
to do, you do not have people breathing down your neck. In other words,
the job is not overly stressful, which is nice. It is also nice having
a set schedule. For the most part, you can be out of the office at 5
every day. There is not a high demand, or pressure by management to
work OT, again, as long as you get the work done that you need to. The
dress code is business casual, which I really enjoy. People look
respectable, yet comfortable at the same time.
Depending on your position, there can be a lot of travel, or very
minimal travel. The underwriter positions do not travel too much.
Generally to a few sales meeting each year, and maybe a few trips to
your territory throughout the year. The claims and sales people work in
the field, and are constantly traveling, but generally within there
designated territory.
One of the best options available at CFC is the opportunity to advance
or move to different areas of the company. There are constantly upper
level supervisor & management positions opening as the company continues
to grow. Or, if you realize you do not like or fit in a particular
department, the company is very open to transferring associates to a
different job. You have the options to go to claims, or get out in the
field as a marketing rep, move to underwriting, or just try a new
department (life, bond, commercial, personal) if you don't feel your
current line is what you want in the future.
Compensation may start out a little lower than average upon initial
hiring, but you are quickly moved up the pay scale. CFC believes in
training all of there associates, and you begin with a formal 5 week in
class training to familiarize you with the business practices and
products of the company. Your first 3 years you are "in training" and
receive a review/raise every six months which quickly bumps up your
pay. At the end of your 3-years, you become eligble for a promotion and
along with that, a nice raise. The benefits(health/dental insurance,
401K, etc) are average, though the year-end bonus and stock options are
great.
