| Pediatric Clinical Dietitian |
The clincal dietitians employed by Compass Group contracted at this
hospital typically work long hours (usually 10-12 hours per day)for
little pay and appreciation. The Compass Group says that it values the
ideas and input of the employees. However, when ideas are contributed
by the employees they are generally not accepted by the management.
Most of the decisions and information surrounding the decisions are
kept confidential within the circle of the upper management.
There are opportunities for lateral transitions in jobs, such as
transferring to a similar job in a different location where Compass is
contracted. There is excellent job security, because if Compass loses
the contract at the hospital where you are employed, you will be
transferred to a similar job at another hospital where Compass is
contrated. However, there is little opportunity for advancement. There
is little incentive for pursuing advanced specialized credentials
within the profession because it does not result in any salary increase
or advancement in status. Many of the RDs here have advanced degrees,
are published authors, and speak at national research meetings, but
they do not recieve any extra recognition or compensation for thier
achievements from Compass.
The dress code here follows that of the hospital, which is business
casual. The RDs do not wear lab coats because many of the young
patients are frightened by them. Diversity does appear to be valued
within Compass and within the hospital environment as well.
