Senior IT Project Manager Charles Schwab WAS a great place to work for before the .com bubble burst. Then they got it into their heads to let Dave Pottruck become sole CEO and the company went to hell in a hand basket. Now they are trying to reinvent themselves and make it the company we all knew and loved, yes, loved before the bust. They hired incapable management before and during Y2K, most of whom were and still are incompetent. But it was all about bodies, capable or not. I had the 'gay' guy that someone from the NSD mentioned, who only got into the company by his friend who was at the time a director but believe it or not, became a VP under the good old boy network of IT. This guy was by far the WORST manager I have EVER had in my 30 years of working in corporate life. Funny, now the majority of those 'good old boys' have finally gotten the boot, but they (Chuck and Co) are a day late and a dollar short. So, they got rid of Geoff Penney and brought some Israeli guy in who thinks that announcing we can wear shorts to work will fix everything. Let's not get rid of the management who still has no clue how to manage or what their people really do. The company pays us a lot of money just to be yes men/women to these incompetent managers. I worked for an Asian woman for 11 months and ended up on tranquilizers and antidepressants because she doesn't know how to communicate let alone manage. I also found out she has been reported to HR at least 5 times, yet still holds her position. Schwab is right to get rid of their CIOs, SVPs, VPs, but also need to take a HARD look at their Directors and Senior Managers who are only thinking of their own advancement in the company. Career counseling? NO WAY. Not ONE time have I EVER been coached on my career path in the entire 7 years I have worked there. Maybe someday Schwab will be a good place to work for, but this consulting company that has been hired will no doubt remove all the RIGHT people and keep all the WRONG people. I know I will be ax'd (which by the way, will be my 2nd time), but this time I will have no desire to return. Too many backstabbers, too many self centered people who will hurt anyone and do anything to get ahead.
