| Director of Career Services |
I work with IT and medical students in a one-on-one counseling
environment as well as classroom, helping them to prepare for a career.
I teach workshops and classes on effective job search strategies. I
also write curriculum, keep student statistical reports, and build
relationships with local employers.
This technical school provides a pleasant and supportive working
environment. The management gives me autonomy in my area of
responsibility. Our school is one of several others with a corporate
sponsor in Virginia, where most financial and policy decisions are
made. The dress code is business professional, which I find most
pleasing.
I love my job's diversity of task, and the satisfaction of helping
people in a way that matters in their lives.
I only work 20 hours a week by choice. I do feel the compensation is
inadequate for my level of education (graduate degree), and I may have
to move on, unless that changes.
The school does not have much opportunity for advancement for me, unless
I move to another location.
