The culture here at Cerner is very unique. Reviews, advancement, and
compensation are strictly performance based. Because of this, each
employee is committed to working very hard and doing the best job they
can do. They also, are committed to maintaining a work/life balance.
There are always needed diversions or chances to have fun while at
work. For instance, they recently held a Cerner Idol contest (similar
to American Idol) and had singing contests during work hours. Entire
teams will go to lunch to celebrate an associates birthday. They hold
a monthly event called Beer Friday where the top executives bring in
cases of beer and associates can go talk to them about whatever they
want. It makes it seem like the exec's really care about making it a
better place to work. That is a welcome feeling when you're putting in
so many hours. Most associates, because of their general work ethic,
put in close to 50 hours every week.
