Job Title Workplace Survey
Coordinator, Membership Services The Canadian Hockey Association is the best employer I have worked for in my 35 years in the workforce. We are non profit and therefore wages are fairly low, but they recognize that and provide good benefits, fairly up to date technology to assist us with our work, an open door policy, good communication up and down, and a great atmosphere. I'm not saying we are without our office politics and the sexes enjoy complete equality as that doesn't seem possible in any office. We work long hours - our contracts/employment letters state that our normal working hours are 8:30 am-4:30 pm, but on occasion, extra time may be required. My days are rarely less than 9-10 hours on average and there are some who put even more time in. Most of us are not only employees, but volunteers as well as we believe in the value of what we teach to kids, not only with respect to the sport, but also for their future potential as contributing human beings. Dress code is business casual, except on Fridays when we dress more casually with jeans allowed and, in the summer, walking length shorts. We deal with people from all walks of life as the company is volunteer driven and our teams represent Canada at the international competitions. Interaction between staff and players, coaches, officials, etc. is common. We also deal directly with other country's hockey federations. Opportunities for advancement are limited for women, but possible. For men, it's a bit easier and some have advanced through the levels to Vice President. Our staff is young and while some leave us for the National Hockey League, service is usually fairly long term, limiting future openings. These people care about their employees and show it. We've just been given the Queen's Commemorative Medal, all of us, for the care and time we put into our jobs. We have opportunities for other 'perks' occasionally. We work hard, we play hard...some more than others. This is a great place to work
