I have a small home business part-time and I work on calls at Canada
Post, so I see and experience both world. I was very motivated at the
beginning with my job, being a natural proactive person. I was happy
to be able to do some exercise doing my job and having a decent pay
compare to other jobs. By being on calls, I also have the flexibility
to take or refuse a assignement, but they can also tell me we won't
need you for 4 to 5 weeks or more.
Today, after 3 years, I entered a routine I don't like. No possibility
of advancement for a long time, back and feet problems by the overload
and overtime we have because of the bad planning of human ressources...
I basically go, only because I really need the money... when my small
business will be strong enough, I'll be happy to answer... NO... to
pretty much all assignements they send my way and keep that option as a
security precaution.
The schedule is suppose to be good and flexible, but I have trouble to
find a day care that will take my child before 6h45, because I have to
be at work at 7h00 at the latest. I'm suppose to finish at 15h00, but
with the overtime going on 3 days a week or more, sometime I finish
between 17h00 to 18h00... so a steady 3 days or more of 11 hours per
day... You are very tired at the end of the week... no suprise that
Canada Post is one of the top Company to have the most injured employee
per year. Dress code is easy... and a separate company handle that
for them with a points system.
