California National Bank started when FBOP Corp. purchased Torrance
Bank in 1996. The parent company went on to buy several other banks in
the Los Angeles Market place. With the acquisition of Topa Savings,
and Topa Thrift, California National Bank was officially established.
The bank has grown in size since with additional acquisitions of
People's Bank of California and Fidelity Federal Bank.
Working at California National Bank has many rewards. Room for growth
coupled with career advancement make the bank a very viable place for
quick promotion. A lack of infrastructure may force this privately
owned bank to slow its growth. The corporate culture is very casual
and friendly. Corporate is very different from Washington Mutual and
Bank of America in that they seek growth from the community in which
they serve rather than from the market place. The diversity is
reflective of Los Angeles. The dress code and hours are typically bank-
like. Corporate is headquartered in Los Angeles.
Online description: FBOP Corp. is a $12.2 billion asset holding company
based in Oak Park, Illinois. FBOP is a well-capitalized, growth-
oriented corporation that holds 11 banks in Illinois, California,
Texas, and Arizona.
