"Flexible" is the word that best describes the culture at CH2M HILL.
Many employees work from home at times, others telecommute full-time.
The company provides an on-site fitness center and cafeteria. Business
casual is the typical dress, although it is not uncommon to see ties and
jackets and business suits.
Although the company claims to value diversity, the Denver office staff
is mostly Caucasian. There seems to be ample opportunities for women to
advance (at least as far as mid/upper management).
One drawback is the way that the company handles inevitable slow
periods. If an employee is not 100% billable, they are sent home and
must take vacation time. Each employee is assigned to a business group
(i.e. water, transportation, environmental) and generally works only
within that group, even if opportunities exist in other groups.
Overall, CH is a good place to work if you find that balancing career
and family obligations is a challenge. A bit more flexibility and
employmee sharing among business groups would improve opportunities and
provide a more dynamic andd interesting work environment.
