Working shifts on Sun-Thurs are decent, but Fri and Sat are very
stressful. The already busy shifts are made even more nerve-wracking by
the "Secret Shoppers", spies who require employees to follow a strict
check-out script or suffer write-ups or other negative reprisals. The
job requires much more selling than most expect. Just helping customers
is never enough. You have to push their pet promotions and upsell even
to the good customers. Heck, employees even get in trouble for not
asking how a customer intends to pay before you have a order total for
them.
They generally won't hire you if you say you're not avail Fri, Sat or
holidays. Expect no holiday pay except Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New
Years Eve. Their yearly evaluation is a farce. Everyone gets the same
teeny raise that's a joke. They no longer hire minors, so you'd think
they'd stop treating the employees like kids, but you'd be wrong. The
store managers are the only ones who reap all the benefits of everyone
else's hard work. As a store, we sell x-amount of movie passes and the
boss gets a trip to Vegas and a nice fat bonus. The rest of us get a
keychain or other petty "prize", if anything at all.
