I think the outlook for the RCA Music Group will continue to be in-flux
for the next few years. I believe there will be more lay-off's, or at
least a hiring freeze. Bertelsmann is currently in negotiations with
Time Warner to take over the music division of the company. Executive
Management has made it clear that they don't know what's going on
(adding to the tension that comes with instability). With the high cost
of doing business and the low profit, a merger is the only option. I
believe this will mean more job cuts, minimal wage increases and a much
more corporate environment. The corporate world seems to be diverting
further and further away from what has drawn us to this business in the
first place -the passion of music. Bertelsmann is also considering
going public with stock options. Again, considering the state of the
music business and the decline in sales, this will mean severe cost &
overhead cuts to please the stock holders.
