Diversity-while the company hires a diverse range of people, it does
little to promote their advancement. Women are not well represented in
management positions.
Culture-politics are so prevelant that they are choking the ability of
the company to make necessary decisions. Form over substance rules the
day. The company is so caught up in process, that nobody is asking a
basic question, namely, is the process serving the company's business
goal. The over focus on process has lead to myopy. Certain managers
care more about what time their direct reports show up to work in the
morning than what they do when they are at work.
Dress Code- Buinsess casual.
Morale- There is a notion that Bayer has decent benefits. The benefits
certainly are good, but Bayer has completely missed the concept of "work
life." For example, at one point the employees wanted to form a
corporate softball team and compete against other companies in a "beer
league." Bayer refused to support this and actually tried to block
it. Another example, at one point the company was remodelling the
building due to a flood. At least 230 employees signed a petition
asking for a gym, or at least a locker room, to be built so that the
employees could work out at lunch. The employees even put forth a plan
whereby the cost for this facility would be borne by the employees.
HR's response: "Bayer is not in the employee fitness business." In
short, Bayer's attitude is that the employees are lucky to have desks.
