Job Title Workplace Survey
Carpenter I had been laid off for a considerable time. I was making phone calls and sending out resumes. I finally started to get some work from the Union. I got laid off from one job, and the union called with another one for a 3 or 4 week period. I told them I would take it. A short time later that day, I got a call from someone at Barton and Malow asking if I wanted to work. I asked them if they had a lot of work and was told they did. I said I would take it and was told to report to the office at 7 the next morning. I called the Union up and told them I couldn't take their job and explained why. Saying thats great they wished me good luck. I went the next day for orientation, interview, and they sent me for my drug testing. They told me to report to a job about 1 1/2 hours away, at 7 the next morning. I went the next few days. They then laid me off. The foreman said I looked shocked at the lay off. I told him I was because I had been told there was a lot of work. He said he had only requested somebody for a few days. I told him I had only been hired a few days before. He was surprised and took my name and number and told me that I was a good worker and he would try to find out what was going on. I then called the man who hired me and asked if he had anything else. He said no, but maybe in a day or two. Two days later, after not hearing from him I went down to the office and waited to see him. He didn't want to see me, but I waited him out. I asked him what was going on. He had said he had a lot of work on the phone. He stated that its hard to get a guy to come for only a few days. I told him I had turned down a job because he had stated that he had a lot of work. He had lied to me. He said that it wasn't his problem that I had turned down work. I told him I don't think much about him and the company. I will never work for this company again, nor will I ever have anything good to say about them. They lead people on and then get rid of them. He stated that he just lets them keep calling, til they give up. I didn't. There was no one else that heard the conversation. I have no proof. They will probably deny it and say that I did a bad job. There must be more people out there. Thanks for listening.
