It has been a long time since I hired on, but I have been involved in
interviewing candidates recently. Right now, there are a huge number of
resumes flooding into the company (15,000+ this year and we only have
2,500 employees). Ball is only looking for very specific needs (for
software this involves real-time programming of specific chips). In
fact the last 4 people hired into SW were from out of state (despite a
surfeit of candidates locally). Ball does a phone interview first and
then determines if there is to be an in person interview. Interviews
today consist of technical questions (one interviewer hands an
interviewee C++ code and asks them to find the mistake - and it isn't
just a simple syntax error - it's a logical thinking error). Ball looks
for team players, so there will be questions geared to how well you get
along with people. Ball is heavily invested in process improvement and
is ISO 9000 certified. In the software area we recently certified as
SEI level 2 and are working toward reaching SEI level 3 in 1-2 years, so
expect questions on process improvement.
