Aerospace in inherently unstable. Right now, there is a large backlog
of work and Ball is hiring. In the last 12 years, there have been 2
times when Ball had layoff periods due to lack of work. Ball offered
special early retirement packages and voluntary layoff packages to try
to avoid forced layoffs. During those layoff periods, Ball set up a
special resource office for those laid off to help them write resumes,
find work and navigate the unemployment morass. Many of those laid off
later returned to Ball when the workload increased. That says a lot
about what a wonderful place this is to work.
