The electronic application form is screened twice. The first screening
by HR removes people who don't meet basic criteria such as educational
level and ability to obtain a work permit. The second one by line
managers is to high-grade people purely on the content of their
responses to the three questions. It is therefore essential to enter as
much evidence as you can of the competencies they are looking for in
those responses. Once you've got past that there's a 'first round'
interview which will focus on either technical or commercial
competency,
and usually incorporate a numeracy/literacy test. Most of the
interviewers are practising engineers, team leaders and line managers.
Then there's the 'second round' or 'selection event' which is a 24 hour
event that includes 2 interviews (looking for technical skills again,
as
well as workplace competencies like influencing and cooperation) and 3
games - an individual one where you have an hour to deal with an in-
tray; a group one where cooperation is key to whether the group
succeeds
or not; and a group one where each individual is in competition with
the
others, but it's not quite so important whether you succeed or not, as
how. There's also the opportunity to 'relax' in the evening...
