Job Title Workplace Survey
Manager I currently work in BP's Integrated Supply & Trading (IST) in Naperville, IL just outside Chicago. I work on BP's energy trade floor which trades Oil, Gasoline, Heating Oil, Jet Fuel ect... The working environment is fast paced but is definitely casual. The dress code is casual and if you want to wear jeans everyday you can. The hours are quite reasonble, largely due to the fact that your working hours are mainly tied to NYMEX and when the market isn't open then there is not a lot of reason to be at the office. The workplace is incredibly diverse, where I would say 1/3 of the people I work are foreign nationals. In addition, the ratio of women and minorities are quite high. Going back to the corporate culture, teamwork is highly emphasized but in reality there are many times when you have to sink or swim on your own. This is especially true when you are new. You are expected to hit the ground running and there is little tolerance for errors. The company does well in areas of general training for jobs but specific training for roles is almost non-existent. As far as career advancement is concerned, because BP is such a huge company and encourages job movement and career development there will we an ample number of opportunites for career advancement. Overall, the environment is a nice one to work in.
