A strength is the good foothold they've got in places like Angola, Russia, Algeria, Azerbajhan. Another is their very strong positions in great basins like the N Sea and Alaska. A weakness is their recent habit of reorganising every year or so. They've also grown a lot recently by acquisition, and it's not obvious management have grown enough in their ability to manage. In the UK employee morale has recently been very low, but I think this is set to improve. In my experience it is cyclic around a pretty high mean. BP's environmental stance is distinctive, but I think others are catching up.
