My employment at BBDO ended long ago, but I started at $20,000 per year and made
$50,000 per year when I left, less than five years later. I made a great jump in
salary two years into my tenure at BBDO, when I got another job offer. I agreed
to take the new job and tendered my resignation to the Chief Creative Officer. He
got angry to my surprise, because he felt the new agency was terrible and would
ruin my career. I feared he was right, so I told him I'd stay if he matched the
offered salary. He agreed, then assumed they'd offered me more! I let him believe
the inflated figure, which he matched.
