Working at BB&T is like living the movie "Office Space." The majority
of employees are not college educated. In fact, most have climbed the
corporate ladder to their current positions and can go no higher.
Managers are only recruited from other banks or are 22 year olds that
have graduated from the Management Development Program that the company
runs in Winston-Salem. The culture at BB&T is EXTREMLY conservative.
Everyone goes to church, everyone is married with 2.5 kids and
basically everyone is white. The employees like to talk about their
church activities and they like to know about yours. There is no
diversity at BB&T. The hours are great, as long as you aren't in
Operations. It is either 8 to 5 or 8:30 to 5:30. Never any overtime.
Maybe there isn't enough work to do. Maybe that's why they have been
laying off so many people. The dress code is strictly business. No open
toed shoes for women, no bare legs, no capri or cropped pants, men must
wear ties, no facial hair, etc. There are opportunities for advancement
if you have a solid financial background.
