BASF is a global German company. It is trying very hard to be simply a
global company reflecting the various ethnicities of its customers.
With the current restructuring and hiring from outside, it tries to
bring in outside influence. For example, Prevost from BP and Podesta
from GE Plastics.
The culture is definitely German because the higher levels of management
are mostly German. This creates an interesting maze of paths for non-
Germans who are looking for advancements.
It seemed that Germans will only trust other Germans when it comes to
reporting. The same message or industry reporting would be believed and
listened to better from a German in USA who is reporting to Germany than
it would have been if an American communicates it. So communication is
still a big issue within this company.
It is not a diverse company when the population is >70% white male. The
company may have good intentions, but it does many things in the wrong
way many times. For example, promotion of women for the sake of
promoting women.
