Working as an Instrumentation and Control technician at a combined
cycle power plant, each day I perform calibrations and repairs to the
plant equipment. We only have 17 people on-site, so we run a very
informal ship. Unfortunately, we still face lots of micro-management.
The people in charge do not trust the workers to perform their jobs
correctly. This facility could be a very good place to work, if the
workers were left alone.
We also face the uncertainty of undergoing yet another sale of the
company. Our company has been sold five times in ten years. This
results in changing of 401K, medical plans, retirement plans, vacation
benefits, bonuses, etc.
I work day shift from 7 AM to 3:30 and I wear a uniform, although it is
not required. It saves my clothes from getting greasy. There is no room
for advancement at my current location.
