The company president was definitely erratic. His partner was more
stable. Each man was brilliant but the president was loud and rude and
often acted immaturely. "Teacher's pets" existed among the employees,
but showing respect for employee contributions was limited to those
coming up with new technical ideas or bringing in the big sales
contracts. In spite of that, employees got along well with each other
and were cooperative. The mostly young developers and engineers were a
racially diverse lot, mostly hired from overseas on H-1 visas. (That
sponsorship has apparently ended, given the current economy.) Technical
employees worked long hours under quite a bit of stress. Dress code was
business casual, though with software folks, you're talking flat out
casual unless a major prospective client was coming through for a tour.
Opportunities for advancement were limited, especially after the layoffs
began. I do not believe the company can survive much longer unless
telecomm turns around quickly.
