Pension consultant Corporate culture since AIG purchase the former subsidiary of American General has been very oppressive. Managements is very much into the "change" management philosophy. While there is lots of talk about the value of the employee, in actuality everything is totally bottom line - do more with lots less. We even purchase many of our own office supplies since we can not order anything at all for 2005 - nothing! It is not in the budget! The original layoffs after the purchase were understandable due to redundency, but layoffs have continued on a regular basis and employees who leave are not replaced. However, dear Hank demanded an increase in earnings of 15% each and every year, period, or the company is threatened with sale. I work with approximately 45 other pension professionals and I can honestly say that we stay here only for one of 2 reasons: the Houston market is very poor right now or we have worked for VALIC for too long to leave now. No one stays because this is a great place to work and we wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
