An employee of AGFS has to enjoy working within the sub-prime market in
order to maintain personal sanity. If you are coming from tradional
finance for a job with AGF, you may want to think twice. AGF offers
quick service and quick money to higher risk customers, however it does
not come without a price. A customers typical personal loan interest
rate is going to be between 25% - 29.3% with at least 3 points in
costs. I have seen (and given) higher interest rates to customers than
what they qualified for AND was told it was because that person didn't
really deserve the lower rate. The typical employee of AGFS is not
experienced in finance, the dress code is business casual and so is the
attitude of the offices. Branch managers run their offices
independantly for the most part but the District managers tend to micro-
manage more than not and as an employee you tend to have the DM looming
over you more than you may elsewhere. From the employees I have met and
the meetings I have attended, the company hires alot of women and
minorities so I do compliment them on that. As far as hours go,
Tuesdays are for late calling blitzes and collections; you may be asked
to stay late but dont expect to get paid for it, they send you on a
long lunch or work the numbers in a way so while you may feel like you
are benefiting, you lose. My absolute least favorite part of this job
has got be to collecting and CHASES! Deliquent accounts are divied and
given to all branch members to collect upon and those acctounts not
collected on by the end of the month get a special visitor at the end
of the month...YOU. The Financial Rep of the office usually is
responsible for chases; going to the home of the deliquent customer and
demanding payment (strong arming them into payment I say). If you
drink the company kool-aide and like this kind of work, by all means we
need you...if you have reservations, run, Lola, run!
