Having grown up in a corporation that valued employees as an asset, AMEX
was a very different experience. There is an old saying: Do not be the
only expert, if you are irreplaceable you cannot be promoted.
Most of the employees hold onto what they know and share very little
knowledge and experience. This makes it difficult for a new employee to
the company. The work and time spend to recreate information and
documentation and become a knowledgeable employee is exhausting in
itself.
Now that most of the experienced and knowledgeable people are gone from
the organization/company, this monumental task is not as evident.
In general, the staff does not trust or respect all levels of
management. Management sticks together at all cost. The staff only has
each other, and they watch their back at all times. Fear of retribution
is the rule.
All of this is totally against what is published for the Blue Box
Values. Survival is to keep quiet to keep your job, make no waves, and
be as invisible as possible. Recognition is given to the individuals
achievements, but Management will take all real credit for the
accomplishments of the staff.
