Working at Aera has been a great experience because of the overall
environment. I never thought I would be working for an oil company
(Aera is a Joint Venture between Shell & ExxonMobile), but the size
(about 1100 people) is perfect. We are big enough to know we'll have a
job in 10 years and small enough to be able to make a difference in our
jobs. Management is great, they encourage you to learn and grow
yourself, they let you get your job done on your own and do not tell you
what to do on a daily basis - you have your job, it's up to you to get
it done. Aera has a 9/80 schedule, which means you get every other
Friday off, plus you start with 4 weeks vacation! The dress is pretty
casual, if you are working at a field location jeans and a collared
shirt are acceptable, in the main office it is usually slacks and a
collared shirt. The average age of people working for Aera is probably
late 40's, so there will soon be a wave of retirements which will
probably lead to good advancment opportunities.
