I interviewed in the UK for the undergrad business Analyst position. This
is my review of the first round assessment.
The interview seemed very informal; there was a lot of friendly banter
regarding the weather etc. and quite a bit of selling of Accenture before
the questions started. The first part of the questions focused on my
knowledge of Accenture and the industry. They included:
Why are you interested in IT? Why Consulting? Why Accenture?
Who are Accenture's main competitors?
What do you think are the downsides of working at Accenture?
Who are some of Accenture's clients and what did Accenture do for them?
(Look at case studies on the website).
The second part was critical behaviour skills, which is pretty standard.
Questions such as:
Tell me about a time when you went against the advice of a superior.
Tell me about a time when you had to resolve a dispute in a team.
Tell me about a time when you went beyond expectations.
Beware: They also ask for situations where the outcome was negative!
Prepare situations where your actions resulted in a negative result and
say what you learned from them. This caught me by surprise and required
quick on-the-spot thinking. They also asked for multiple examples of the
main ones (teamworking skills, leadership) so have lots of stories in
reserve which you can adapt to the specific question.
The final part was a simple case study. This was very basic, and really
just required you to know what Accenture does. It was basically: talk me
through how Accenture could benefit an airline industry. Just think of
all Accenture's services (Enterprise systems, CRM, Procurement,
Outsourcing etc.) and apply them. Very simple to do. I was told that it
doesn't require knowledge of the industry and insider knowledge (like
knowing about consolidation, new low fare structures) was impressive but
was not needed at all to do well and get to the next round.
